CHT & EGT

CHT – Cylinder Head Temp – It indicates if the hottest CHT is within the engine’s normal range. It should be noted that many aircraft rely on airspeed to keep CHT and Oil Temps under control, especially in summer. In aircraft with mixture control, operating too lean can cause CHT to rise, as can bad fuel.

One method to manage CHT in hotter months is to Step climb, another is to climb at a higher air speed and lower angle.

EGT – Exhaust Gas Temp – This is generally used to monitor for correct fuel mixture.
