ATPL Overseas Conversion (AOSA)
AOSA is a subject made from the combination of 3 units: ATPL Met (AMET), ATPL Law (AALW) and CPL Law (CWLA). There are rumours CASA may be reducing the amount of MET in overseas conversion exams, but a quick look at the permitted materials lists, indicates there will still be some operational type questions.
AOSA is a 3 hour exam requiring an 80% pass mark. In 2018 the pass rate was just 58%. It is a time pressure exam and many candidates run out of time.
Be forewarned CASA wording of questions is ridiculous and they often pick tiny obscure little details to ask you about. The Australian regulator is very adversarial, so don’t expect easy or even tough exams. These will by far be the most difficult exams you have ever sat for aviation, so make sure you over-study.

Start Practice Exam CASA Feedback ExpandThe syllabus areas have been well handled, as evident by its pass rate, especially when the AALW demands a pass score that is 10% higher than for other exams. However, candidates should not be lulled by the fact of AALW being an ‘open book’ exam, as comprehensive studies are necessary prior to sitting the exam. The following areas are noted as requiring careful preparation:

- Maintenance defects, defect reporting and maintenance releases
- Recency requirements
- Documentation
- Flight instruments/Radio and aircraft equipment requirements
