Starting & Taxiing

Starting
Starting must not occur:
- *Unless a qualified and current pilot is in a control seat
- In a hanger
- Within 15m of a fuel spill
- *Within 5m of a building
- *Within 8m of other aircraft
- *Within 15m of public areas
- Within 8m of an unsealed building
People may not enter or exit the aircraft while the engine is running.
Prior to starting:
- Carry out your pre-start checks form the aircraft’s checklist
- Double check your park brake is on
- *You have a responsibility to visually check for people prior to starting
- *You must call loudly “clear prop” prior to starting
As soon as the aircraft starts:
- Ensure you are at correct RPM, and
- Check oil pressure is rising
Taxiing
- *Seatbelts must be worn when taxiing
- Radio headset must be worn when taxiing
- A radio should be listened to prior to taxiing
- A radio call made prior to commencing taxiing
- A radio call made prior to entering or crossing a runway
- A radio call made prior to beginning ground roll for takeoff
- A radio call made when exiting an active runway
- A radio call made when taxiing to or from a fuel bowser
