***The Standard Circuit
The standard circuit is to the left. The pilot sits on the left so this provides ideal visibility.
A standard circuit is with left turns and downwind at 1000 feet.
***Circuit heights
- Aircraft over 150kt = 1500 feet
- Aircraft 55kt – 150kt = 1000 feet
- Aircraft under 55kt = 500 feet
Emergency Landing Approaches/Circuits
Emergency landing circuits need to be modified to allow for landing in the correct location, often without engine power.
Radio Calls In The Circuit
The following are positional radio calls in the circuit. By no means do you make every call on every circuit. This will depend on your location and training. Generally speaking when doing touch and go circuits we make a turning base and turning downwind call and if necessary and airborne of runway __ __. Your instructor will cover this in more detail.
The other calls are used when exiting the circuit or when reporting your position in the circuit to avoid conflicts.
